About the program
JamWeek at Shenkar College in Ramat Gan is a four-day academic course focusing on interdisciplinary studies and engaging students and lecturers from across the college’s departments. The course is based on cross-disciplinary workshops and sessions on accessibility, coping with special needs, and redesigning the environment, grounded on recognizing the power of designers and engineers to serve as agents of social change on behalf of society’s disadvantaged groups.
Over the years, some 4,350 students and 300 lecturers have participated in the project.
Goals
Promoting interdisciplinary and innovative thinking at Shenkar college, through the creation of an academic and social experiential space where a learning process of acquiring new interdisciplinary capabilities and skills for students from all the college’s departments (engineering, design, and art), with the aim of preparing students for industry and the world of employment.
Mode of operation
A 40-hour course held over four concentrated days during the semester break. Each year, some 700 students and 50 lecturers from throughout Shenkar participate in the course, which is based on approximately 30 interdisciplinary workshops integrating practical experience, interdisciplinary learning, social engagement, teamwork, and a direct encounter with people with disabilities, in order to gain knowledge about their personal needs.
